Grille work

Here's a non specific project to kick off this forum.

I have been working on a new grille for the LS. I found a grille that I was able to separate down to a frame. I found some mesh on Amazon, and painted the grille to match.

It was chrome initially, and I hate chrome, so I stripped it off the plastic so the paint would stick better.

I'm no body man, but the finish looks good from five feet away, which is good because the car looks good from about a city block away.

I also cut out the center where the emblem goes. I stripped the paint and chrome off it and painted the back of it black, leaving the star unpainted. I have an led strip to mount behind it that will illuminate when the parking lights are on. It's a mod others have done, and taken it to color changing extremes.

It's at work right now with the epoxy drying on the top half of it. I'll trim the bottom of the mesh a little more tomorrow and finish the epoxy work, then zip tie the mesh down and let it cure over the weekend.

After that, I'll attack some threaded rods, make new holes in the hood and attach it with nuts. Before the badge goes in, I need to mount it to the car so I can get the leds in the correct spot.

I want to use some plastx polish on the badge, since it's got some marks from all the work I put into it.

Here how it's sitting now. I finished attaching the mesh today and I'm letting the epoxy set over the weekend.

I was too aggressive with my clamping and messed up the paint I laid down a couple weeks back.

So I'll finish the attachment, and sand, prime and paint it again. Masking the mesh of course.

Maybe this time I'll get the clear to look better.
